This week's "Dear Debbie" is a continuation of last week. My blog reader (Carol) asked me two questions in one post so I decided to split it up. Here is Carol's question #2 and if you missed her first question, I will list a link at the end of my post for previous questions asked by readers:

Part #2 reads "......On that same line, but maybe for another post, please explain the differences in black inks (Basic, Memento, StazOn) and what you use them for. For instance, which one do I use to color with Blender Pens, and/or Aqua Painters"

Memento Black Ink is a dye-based ink and a good tip to remember about dye-based inks is "dye dries". It dries fast so you don't have to wait to use it. This ink works well with alcohol based markers as the ink will not run. This ink will not work well with water-based inks such as our Stampin' Write Markers. If I do use my markers, I make sure I color quickly and try not to grab any of the ink on the image. I go as close as I can without wetting the ink. This ink is also fade resistant. This ink does not do well with mixed-media such as Modge Podge or any other "wet" substances.

StazOn Jet Black Ink is an alcohol-based ink therefore, if you use alcohol based makers, it will run. Another good tip to remember is "like dissolves like" meaning, alcohol based ink is dissolved by other alcohol inks.  Water-based inks dissolve with other water-based mediums. You can use StazOn Ink to stamp on non-porous surfaces such as photo's, acetate window sheets, vellum, ceramic tile and other non-porous surfaces. StazOn Ink is not recommended for use on our Photopolymer Stamps as they will stain drastically and if you clean your stamps with the StazOn Cleaner, the cleaner will damage your stamps.

When it comes to coloring with markers, inks & water-coloring with Blender Pens and Aqua Painters, StazOn Ink is my ink of choice.

Craft Basic Black Ink is also a dye-based ink and is acid free. It does fade with time. This ink does not do well with any type of wet coloring. It will smear or smudge. I mostly use this ink when stamping sentiments or lined images without coloring. This is my "less" used of all of my black inks.

I hope I was able to give you a little bit of knowledge today and please, if you have any questions feel free to leave them here on my blog or email me: debbiesdesigns2009@gmail.com
