If you are using mozilla firefox as your main web browser and if you like opening web pages that's still running adobe flash, then you will need to install flash player plugin.
Because unlike google chrome, mozilla firefox does not come with built in flash player, so if you open web pages that have flash content then it won't work.
You can try open this web page with mozilla firefox, if you don't have flash player plugin then it will says "A plugin is needed to display this content" instead of displaying the web page.
It will be different if you open it with google chrome, because google chrome have built in flash player, so it will display the web page properly.
For other web browser such as firefox, opera, etc, we need to install flash player plugin so that it can display flash content just like google chrome.
On lubuntu 16.04 there are three packages for installing flash player; flashplugin-installer, adobe-flashplugin and there is one package i forget the name, but the correct one is adobe-flashplugin.
How to install flash player on lubuntu 16.04
- open synaptic package manager, lubuntu start menu > System Tools > Synaptic Package Manager.
- click on Settings > Repositories
- on tab 'Other Software', enable the 'Canonical Partners', close the synaptic package manager.
- on the command line run sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get update
- now install the package adobe-flashplugin
sudo apt-get install adobe-flashplugin
- open the web page again with firefox, this time should be working.
Why we need to enable the canonical partners on synaptic package manager? because the package adobe-flashplugin is located in there, so if you don't enable it then you won't be able to install the package.
